The Strand
Daniel Myrick, the creator of the "Blair Witch Project", has launched a new "media experiement" called "The Strand". Here's a brief description of The Strand from the press release announcing it:
"The Strand is an uncensored look at the lives of several off-beat characters that inhabit the unique world of Venice Beach, California, and how they are all connected. Utilizing many of the method-film techniques that were incorporated into Blair Witch, The Strand maintains a sense of authenticity that cannot be found in large-scale productions. Real people and actors populate a fictional world in which spontaneous as well as scripted dialogue bring a sense of unpredictability and realism to the characters and situations."
It's being released as a series of webisodes, the first of which is available at: www.strandvenice.com.
The really interesting this about this project is that it's exploring new means of distribution and revenue for indpendent film and tv. The webisodes are being distributed via BitTorrent... and although the first webisode is free, subsequent webisodes will require users pay $0.99 to download them.
To follow discussions about this, I've tagged it as Strand in Technorati.
