Fruitcast is an interesting service that provides leverage for podcasters to start making revenue. The service essentially sells ads on a podcast, republishes it, and shares the revenue with the podcaster. This is a great way for podcasters without large audiences or experience selling ads to generate revenue. It essentially follows the same network advertising model that many other sites have.
The interesting part about the technology is that ads are dynamically inserted into the podcast mp3 files, so no time has to be spent editing ads into the shows. Pricing right now is apparently a minimum of $0.10 per download, instead of an overall sponsorship fee.
It will be interesting to see how this particular one shakes out. They can't really get traction without having a large amount of "ears" listening, and thus, a large number of podcasts participating in the service.
