Yahoo has launched the "Yahoo! Talent Search", an online video contest where one lucky winner will receive their own show on Yahoo, as well as $50,000. The winner will be decided by the site visitors, as well as a panel of "expert" judges.
The weird thing is that it doesn't appear to be clear what Yahoo is really looking for. Examples on the site are reminiscent of "America's Funniest Home Videos." Those type of videos are hardly an indication of hosting ability. The simple fact is that Yahoo is trying to drum up interest in their video offering, in a YouTube obsessed world. They have to convince users that Yahoo Video can make them famous, too.
